Parent and toddler groups

Parent and toddler groups are for children under the age of five. Children must be accompanied by an adult, although this can be a parent, relative or a childminder. They provide a meeting place for adults where children can play together safely. Groups are usually organised and run by parents and carers and may charge a small amount towards running costs and equipment. They are often based in community centres, church halls and schools. Parent and toddler groups do not need to register with Ofsted as parents and carers remain with the children. They are supported by Newcastle Action for Parent and Toddler Initiative (NAPI).

Toy libraries

Parents, carers, childminders and childcare providers can borrow good quality educational toys from a number of toy libraries in Newcastle
Some also offer a range of equipment for children with special needs and disabilities, including sensory toys. Toy libraries are often based in libraries, family centres, community centres and schools and are usually open for two hour sessions. They also organise play and borrowing sessions. They do not need to register with Ofsted as parents and carers remain with the child. Toy libraries can be part of the Newcastle Toy Library Forum and many are part of the National Association of Toy and Leisure Libraries.
