Biodiversity Action Plan

View the Biodiversity Action Plan

Newcastle is the regional capital, of cultural, economic and environmental importance. An attractive environment will contribute to an improved quality of life for us and for future generations. Its enhancement will provide scope for wildlife, sport, informal recreation and improved health, as well as attracting in business and new residents. The city will be enriched across all sectors, for all people.  The wildlife of Newcastle is an important part of our lives.

Wildlife provides opportunities to relax, learn, enjoy the outdoors and to develop a hobby. Without plants, animals and insects Newcastle will be a poorer place. Because man’s activities can damage the environment and result in the loss of wildlife, we need to work hard to protect and enhance it. We also need to make sure that there is wildlife in the city for future generations to enjoy.

“Your Wildlife” has been produced in partnership with you, the community. Your priorities have helped to shape the action plans, and I hope that you will continue with your involvement to help us implement the many action points.

The Council will be taking the lead in co-ordinating action to achieve this plan, and there are ways in which everyone can play their part. If you have not yet been actively involved, I hope that you will use this plan to guide you in making your contribution to local, regional and national biodiversity.
