Newcastle Neighbourhood Information Service

Welcome to Newcastle Neighbourhood Information Service (NNIS). We aim to make information more accessible to those interested in understanding issues affecting neighbourhoods across the City. The purpose of the NNIS is to provide information to help understand urban change, inform strategy development and policy decisions and monitor progress. The principal aim is to provide an evidence-based system centred on accurate, factual and up-to-date information to a lower and more meaningful geographical level than wards.

NNIS was initially established to support the development of the Council’s regeneration strategy, providing a corporate understanding of urban neighbourhoods, and to meet the information requirements of the Newcastle Local Strategic Partnership (LSP). More recently Bridging NewcastleGateshead (BNG) has identified NNIS as a key tool to informing and monitoring the housing market renewal programme. The BNG evidence base highlighted as an example of good practice by the Audit Comission. The system also supports submissions for funding such as Working Neighbourhood Fund (WNF), Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI) and casino bids.
