Community Fund

We are launching a new exciting way to spend the Newcastle Great Park Community fund. It is called Udecide.

What is the community fund?

It is a small grant aid budget of £25,000 for the first year which is going to be used to fund a wide range of community activities that will benefit the residents of the Newcastle Great Park. Grants between £250 and £3000 are available.

It is unlike other grant aid budgets as it is you the residents of the Newcastle Great Park, who will decide which projects will receive the grants.

What type of activities can be supported by the community fund?

We are looking for projects that will benefit the residents of the Newcastle Great Park. This means that a wide range of activities will be considered. Priorities identified by residents in research carried out on the Newcastle Great Park include the following:

1. Green and Safer

Although a lot of issues raised in the research relate to hard and soft landscaping, we are unable to proceed with them at the present time due to the consortium owning the land. We could however support related projects such as: a gardening club, neighbourhood watch, a nature club, a rambling club or composting scheme. You may have other ideas.

2. Community activities

For example the development of a community festival, forming new groups to provide new activities wanted by the local community or expanding services of existing community groups such youth clubs, brownie packs, scout groups an sport clubs.

3. Arts and culture

Examples could include a chess club, music club, writing club, book club, camera club, an arts class, set up a choir.

This is not a definitive list of types of projects we are looking for. If you have any ideas for a different type of community event of project that you believe will bring the community together please contact us an we will be happy to see if we can help make it work.

Remember if you have an idea that may require the use of community space the new Brunton First School may be able to provide facilities. For more information you can contact Gill McKay the head teacher at: gill.mckay@grange.newcastle.sch.uk or phone 0191 266 8659

Udecide Discussion Forum

We now have a discussion forum that you can log on to, register, become a user and find out more about Udecide and all of the projects that have been proposed under the current programme. You can leave a comment, ask a question or make a suggestion which other residents, officers and Councillors can read and respond to. We look forward from you!

How will Udecide work?

Step 1

You decide what projects you would like to see. You come up with the idea(s) to make them happen. Then fill in the project ideas form.

Step 2

All the ideas we receive will be posted on the internet and you can look at them and ask questions or make comments on our online discussion forum.

Step 3

You hear about all of the suggested ideas at a special event (the Grand Voting Event) and you decide which of the ideas you feel are the best to  benefit the Newcastle Great Park by means of voting. Children and young people will also be able to vote for projects. Don't worry! We will make sure that you know about the Grand Voting Event.

Step 4

You benefit from the winning ideas when the are put into action.

Who can apply for funding?

Applications are only accepted from 'not for profit organisations'

Anyone living on the Newcastle Great park who would like to form a group.

Any existing community and voluntary groups on or surrounding the Newcastle Great Park as long as it benefits the Great Park residents.

Applications will also be considered from directorates of the Newcastle City Council.

Is there a lot of work involved?

No this is not a big or time consuming commitment, there are support officers waiting to receive your ideas, who can answer all your questions, support you and your ideas through the whole process.

If your idea(s) make it to the Grand Voting Event. we will give support in preparing your ideas for presentation.

What do I do next?

Community Panels

The Newcastle Great Park Advisory Committee would like to develop community panels.  There will be three panels working on different themes.  They include:

  • Open Spaces i.e. ecology, landscaping, water courses
  • Transport, accessibility and the town centre
  • Community facilities i.e. community buildings, play areas and the first school

The community panels will help shape the Newcastle Great Park as it develops to meet the community's needs.

We are now in a position to form the open spaces community panel. The new Ranger lee Rankin will work closely with this panel. If you are interested please let me know. Lee is also keen for children and young people to be involved.
