Times Digital Archive and Nineteenth Century Newspapers Online

Researchers can search through the complete digital edition of the The Times from 1785 to 1985, using keyword searching to retrieve full facsimile pages of either a specific article or a complete page. The entire newspaper is captured, with all articles, advertisements and illustrations and photos divided into categories for easier searching.

We now have an annual subscription to the Gale/Cengage database of 19th Century Newspapers. There is access to it via every People’s Network computer in the service. There is also a facility for remote access at home if you have a Newcastle library ticket.  The database includes three northern titles; The Newcastle Courant (Daily and Weekly), The Northern Liberator and the Northern Echo. It also includes a wide range of regional and some national titles, for example, The Illustrated Police News.  If you are interested in family history or general historical research we think you will find this database useful and easy to use. Eisodos - Careers Europe's Migrant Communities Information Resource

This resource contains information for refugees, asylum seekers and EU Migrants, as well as for people working with incomers to the UK. The information is divided in to 3 main sections: ° Background: Aimed at those working in an advisory capacity with migrants, ° Asylum Seekers and Refugees: Aimed those seeking or who have been granted asylum in the UK. ° EU Migrants: Information targeted at incomers to the UK from the EU.
