We’re back! The new High Heaton library in Newton Place opened its doors on Monday 22nd September 2008. Designed by Ryders and built by Tolent Construction, the library’s curving façade has become a distinctive landmark in the Spinney area and the new heart of the High Heaton community. The new look community library has state of the art technology, new books, DVDs, and new public access computers. It is also fully self service, allowing you to issue and return your own books and DVDs. Don’t worry- staff are still on hand to show you how it’s done! The self issue and return system is quick, easy and convenient, freeing staff to devote more time to giving you an improved, more personal service. As well as borrowing from a wide range of new books, you can relax, browse newspapers and magazines, and meet friends over a cup of coffee. There really is something for everyone. The children’s area has a bright fun look and is partitioned from the adult area by a glass screen upon which local artist Kathryn Hodgkinson has etched designs inspired by the memorial trees in the Spinney. There is also a community room which comfortably seats 30 people theatre style and is equipped with audio visual facilities. The room has its own small kitchen and can be used by community groups for meetings, classes, events and activities free of charge.
Customer Service Point

You can get information about different council services from the new Customer Service Information Point. It has a video link so you can speak to a member of staff in another location without having to travel, show us any documents we've asked to see or get help filling in a form. You can also use the new freephone service to contact other council departments and staff from Your Homes Newcastle.
The Information Point is open 9am to 4.30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
High Heaton Library- a place to meet, relax, learn, be inspired.
