The schedule of proposed DPDs 2004-2007 does not represent the full spectrum of regeneration and development projects within the City, which it has not been practicable to include in the first LDS. These comprise potential DPDs to be programmed in a reviewed and updated LDS.

Elswick Study

These neighbourhoods, between West Road and Scotswood Road, adjoin the west side of the City Centre, and there will be strong linkages especially with proposals in the Discovery Quarter, and Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder Prospectus. A Study is being carried out, which will provide essential baseline evidence and potential options for a DPD.

Appropriate parts of the Study will be progressed as SPD. Land use issues will be identified in the Core Strategy, and followed up in a DPD, potentially the Site Specific Land Allocations.

Ouseburn and Byker

This includes the Lower Ouseburn Valley area, and the lower part of the Byker Estate. It has been the subject of earlier regeneration urban design and conservation area management plans, brought forward as supplementary planning guidance. Much of the work planning and transportation framework is in place, and programmed, and development is in hand.

The existing SPG framework and its progress will be monitored, and any need for change of status will be considered in a review of the LDS.

Lemington Newburn Corridor

Riverside areas west of the A1, including Newburn Riverside Industry Park, Lower Lemington, and Newburn. A study is in progress, considering future development and land use options. Potential Area Action Plan from 2008 in a review of the LDS.

Newcastle Airport Masterplan 2006 - 2016

A draft revised masterplan was produced by the Airport in 2003 and was consulted on in 2004. Built development remains confined to the existing masterplan area and area excluded from the Green Belt. Major issues include proposed re-defining of airport-related uses, and a new surface access strategy.

The Core Strategy will incorporate major issues such as the surface access strategy. Any consequent land use issues will be considered in the Site Specific Land Allocations DPD.

Newcastle Great Park

This has outline planning permission and an approved masterplan with SPG status. Building is expected to proceed over approximately the next 7 years.

It is proposed that any future land use issues will be considered in the Site Specific Land Allocations DPD.
