Introduction

On the 21st June 2007 the Planning and Transportation Strategy Committee approved a period of public consultation on the proposed Supplementary Planning Document for St Lawrence Square in lower Byker. It outlines the Council's requirements for housing development on this site.

The designs in the proposal document were prepared on behalf of the City Council by Letts Wheeler Architects, the winners of the Byker Design Competition. This Supplementary Planning Document is one part of the Byker Design Project, which is implementing the competition-winning proposals through a process of community engagement.

The statutory public consultation for this document was carried out from 21 June to 2 August 2007- see below. A revised was taken to the Council's Planning and Transport Strategy Committee on 28 February 2008 for a decision on adoption.

You can download the documents here. The first document describes the SPD in a text format. There are then two technical appendices - a Consultation Statement and a Sustainability Appraisal report.
