Phtograph of a DFDS Seaways ferryThe Port of Tyne International Passenger Terminal at Royal Quays is approximately seven miles east of Newcastle via the A1058 and A19 and is well signposted.
There are bus services from the terminal building to Newcastle City Centre which operate directly after the arrival of each ferry.

DFDS Seaways sail from Ijmuiden (Amsterdam) in the Netherlands to Newcastle all year round. They no longer sail to Norway.

The passenger terminal for all sailings is the Port of Tyne International Passenger Terminal, Royal Quays, North Shields.

Tickets can be purchased from any ABTA travel agent, or immediately before departure at the Port of Tyne International Passenger Terminal. However it is advisable to telephone the ferry company to ensure they have availability. Mini-cruise bookings can now be made at Guildhall Tourist Information Centre.

Transport

By Car - Passengers travelling to North Shields from the west should head for Newcastle city (A 167) then take the A1058 to the coast. Passengers travelling from the north or south should take the A1 onto A1058 Coast Road follow signs to ferry terminal, or from the A19 head for the Tyne Tunnel (A 19) roundabout and follow the signs for the port. Signs showing the direction to the quay are clearly marked.

Parking - Car parking is available close to the International Passenger Terminal and is charged at £12 per 24 hours.

By Bus - Bus service 327 serves all ferry arrivals and departures. It links the International Passenger terminal with Newcastle coach railway station. The service departs 2.5 and 1.25 hours before each sailing, from Newcastle Central Station. This service is for passengers travelling on the ferry only. Folding cycles only allowed.

By Metro - The Metro from Monument to Percy Main takes approximately 15 - 20 minutes with a further 20 minute walk to the terminal or take the R19 bus from there to Royal Quays ( alight Wet N Wild).

Taxi - Taxi ranks are located at the passenger Terminal and Central Railway Station price £15 approximately.

Cycle - a cycle route map produced by TYNEBIKES is available from Newcastle Tourist Information Centre on request.

The only accommodation at the ferry terminal is The Premier Travel Inn Royal Quays, Coble Dene Road, North Shields,  phone 0870 850 6348. There is a wide range of accommodation in Newcastle and Whitley Bay and information can be obtained from the local Tourist Information Centres. Alternatively you can book online at the Accommodation Booking Service or phone: 0906 680 6805 for the booking service, calls charged at 25p per minute.
