Lemington has a number of interesting open public spaces. Sugley Dene North and South is a semi-natural ancient woodland site of nature conservation interest and proposed local nature reserve. It is home to a surprising amount of wildlife and native woodland plants. Split in two by Neptune Road, the northern and southern ends of the Dene could almost be poles apart. The northern end of Sugley Dene is dominated by spectacular beech trees towering above the footpaths and the stream, Sugley Burn. Their impressive canopy shades out sunlight from the woodland floor and bare earth banks are common here. The southern end of the Dene, by contrast, remains much as it must have always been, with oak, ash and hazel allowing the light through to plants.
Valley View has public football pitches and Waverly Park is the base for two bowling clubs and a five a side kick about area. On Tyne View the impressive Lemington Centre offers a range of health services, leisure activities including a gym, playgroup and a community café. Lemington Centre is a children’s centre offering a range of services and activities for children and the wider community.
The Lemington Ward boundary starts at the A1/A69 roundabout and heads northwest along the A69 before turning southwest to the east of the Blucher Terraces. From here the boundary runs to the rear of the electricity sub station and continues west along the footpath to Walbottle Road, where it heads south to the Lemington Road roundabout. From the roundabout the boundary runs southeast along High Street and west onto the cycle track where it continues west along Shelley Road. From here it heads south through Newburn Industrial estate to the River Tyne where it continues east along the river to Blaydon Bridge. At the bridge the boundary heads north along the A1 till it reaches back to the starting point.
