In Kenton ward tenants of Your Homes Newcastle have access to North Kenton Community Housing Office, located in the newly opened Kenton Centre, and Blakelaw Community Housing Office. These offices provide and support a variety of functions and services including rent enquiries and the reporting and monitoring of repairs.
The Council’s fourth Customer Service Centre opened in Kenton on 3rd October 2005 within the Kenton Centre. The centre offers customers easy access to a range of Council services with support from specially trained Customer Service Officers. It includes a brand new library, cashiering facilities and a Your Homes Newcastle office. There is also a Social Services base, a GP practice and other professional health care services provided by Newcastle Primary Care Trust.
Kenton has a number of schools providing education and support to a range of ages. Primary education is offered by Montagu Community Full Service School, St Cuthbert’s Primary, Mountfield Primary and Kenton Bar Primary. Montagu Community Full Service School is the first of its type in the country. As well as nursery and primary education the school also offers a range of community and health services including Healthworks and Surestart.
Kenton Technology College offers secondary level education as well as an additionally resourced centre for pupils with speech and language difficulties and communication disorders. At the school there is also a centre for Continuing Education which offers education opportunities for adults of all ages and educational levels. The centre has an ICT (Information, Communication, and Technology) Suite and an onsite crèche.
Cowgate Leisure Centre on Harehills Avenue offers two halls which can be hired, a fitness room and has a timetable of fitness activities.
The boundary starts on Kenton Road heading west to the rear of the properties on Kenton Crescent. It continues along the rear of the properties on Mountfield Gardens. From here the boundary continues west at Kirkwood Drive around the northern edge of Mountfield Primary School where it heads north to the rear of the flats on Bradwell Road. It then heads west on Bradwell Road turning north on to Hillsview Avenue then west on Quentin Avenue. It continues north along Hazeldene Avenue and joins the A1 Western Bypass heading south along the A1 to the roundabout. From here the boundary travels south down Ponteland Road to the Cowgate roundabout. Here it heads east along the A6127 to the Grandstand Road roundabout. The boundary then heads north east along Grandstand Road to Kenton Road and heads west along the northern edge of Nuns Moor. From this point the boundary heads north at the electricity substation to the rear of the properties on Wyndrow Place, Wyndsail Place, Wyndward Place and Wyndfall Place. It reaches Kenton Road and heads northeast at The Croft to Kenton Road. The boundary progresses north along Kenton Road back to the starting point.
