The Ward Committee recognises that people like to be able to get involved in a range of different ways. Your Ward Coordinator is responsible for finding out how local people want to be involved and ensuring that the methods they choose are available to them. For example in one ward residents may be able to participate and have their say at public meetings and in community forums focusing on crime and community safety. In another ward residents may prefer to give their views via email or through occasional questionnaires received through the post.
Ways you can get involved
Attend a Ward Committee meeting.
Involving Older People
In every ward in Newcastle,
Ward Coordinators are asking older people to tell us how they want to have their say in issues that affect them. Older people are leading this work and we are responding to what they want to see to improve and enhance quality of life. They will have a chance to say what engagement is most appropriate for them and how often it should take place.
If you would like to find out more about what is going on for older people in your ward or you would like to get involved please contact your Ward Coordinator.
The Ward Coordination section also has an older person's champion, Rob Gillie. He can be contacted on 0191 211 6265 if you have any queries about how to get involved.
There are lots of organisations in Newcastle that focus on older people's issues. See Related Links on the right hand side of the page.
Involving Young People
Ward Coordinators are working closely with the Play and Youth team in each ward to set up ways for young people to get involved. The views of young people are very valuable to us and important in influencing how the ward operates.
Young people who wish to be involved will have a say in what is most appropriate for them, how often they meet and what issues they discuss. If you are a young person, or know a young person that would like to be involved please contact your Ward Coordinator for more details.
Newcastle city Council also has a Youth Council. Alreet.com is also a website dedicated to young people.
Environmental Forums
Environmental forums are being set up to look at how each ward can make a positive contribution to the environment for the benefit of all residents. Some forums will be set up to discuss issues in one ward and other may cover more wards. The kind of things that might be discussed are:
Fly Tipping
Graffiti
Litter
Recycling
Street Cleansing
If you would like to get involved in your local forum please contact your Neighbourhood Response Manager. (PDF 111kb)

Local Residents Groups
In every ward there are residents groups that meet regularly to talk about local issues. Some groups cover only a couple of streets but others can represent a number of estates. If you would like to find out where your nearest group is or you are interested in setting up a new residents' group there are organisations that can help you do this. Contact your Ward Coordinator for more details.
There are many ways in which you can give your views and participate in your local area. You don't have to be part of a community group or attend meetings to get your voice heard.
If you don't have time to attend meetings you could send an email to let us know what you think. Your comments will be looked at and responded to by your Ward Coordinator.
We want to involve everyone and let the views of all diifferent people living in the area to be heard. Your Ward Coordinator can organise a variety of things to help you attend meetings such as:
If you need any further information about this please contact your Ward Coordinator.
