On-line Index
With the assistance of the Northumberland and Durham Family History Society and volunteers around the world we have started to put our older records on-line. These records can be searched by year, forename and surname. The result provides a reference number which you click to obtain a printable application form. This form should then be used to apply for the actual certificate. It contains the correct reference number to enable us to quickly locate the original entry. Click on one of the links below to search our database.
Birth Search 1837 - 1870
Marriage Search 1837 - 1900

Search by our staff
If you do not know an exact date and place of an event we are only able to search for a maximum of five years. A GRO index reference (see our family history pages) is of no help to a local register office other than it narrows down the period we need to search. We cannot issue certificates without payment so we are unable to undertake searches over the phone. If you write in you should enclose a cheque made payable to the Superintendent Registrar. Current fees (pdf, 19Kb).

General Search
You can arrange to come in to our office to access our indexes but not the registers through a general search. A fee is charged for a six hour period. You can search as many indexes as you like and we will verify them free of charge. Should any prove to be the entries you are looking for you may then buy the certificates. Please note that you need to make an appointment to conduct a search of our indexes.
