Also located in the Centre is a Library and a Your Homes Newcastle Housing Office, combining the existing Scotswood and Benwell YHN Housing Offices. The modern purpose-built facility based on Condercum Road offers you access to a range of public services including:
Newcastle City Council Customer Service Centre (CSC) delivering over 90 different council services
A spacious library with lots of new books to choose from and PCs for public use with free internet access
Your Homes Newcastle Housing Office
A Community Meeting Room facility
At our CSCs you can access lots of different council services (pdf, 1.5mb) that were formerly only available from the Civic Centre. Here’s a look at some of the key services we deliver:
- You can pay your household bills and top up your mobile phone using PayPoint
- Pay for all council services using your credit or debit card, cash or cheque
- Make enquiries about Housing and Council Tax Benefit
- Make enquiries about and apply for new and replacement blue badges, allowing use of disabled parking facilities (subject to some restrictions)
- View and apply to be added to the Electoral Register
- Arrange bin and bulky collections, litter and street cleaning, street lighting, pest control, grass cutting and trees
- Apply for housing with Your Choice Homes.
Throughout the development of a CSC we work with local people to find out what they think the area needs. As part of this we set up a Community Focus Group which has a mixture of local people and partners involved in the centre. During the development of the building the Community Focus Group were active and had an input into most aspects of the building, from the size of rooms to how we promoted the Centre.
To keep people informed about the Centre a series of newsletters were produced and delivered to all homes in the Elswick and Benwell & Scotswood Wards.
You can view Issue 1, Issue 2 and Issue 3 of the West End Centre newsletter here.
