The Kenton Centre is a modern purpose built facility based on Hillsview Avenue in Kenton that offers you access to a range of public services including:

  • Newcastle City Council Customer Service Centre (CSC) delivering over 90 different council services
  • A spacious library with lots of new books to choose from and PC's for public use with free internet access
  • Your Homes Newcastle Housing Office
  • Social Services team
  • Primary Health Care services
  • Betts Avenue GP Surgery

The facility has been built as part of a special public private partnership through the creation of a Local Improvement Finance Trust or ‘LIFT’. NNT LIFT Co stands for Newcastle and North Tyneside Local Improvement Finance Trust Company.  NNT LIFT Co is made up of Newcastle City Council, Newcastle and North Tyneside Primary Care Trust and Robertson Capital Projects.

At the CSC you can get access to lots of different council services (pdf, 45.7kb) that were formerly only available from the Civic Centre. Here’s a look at some of the key services we deliver:

  • You can pay your household bills and top up your mobile phone using PayPoint
  • Pay for all council services using your credit or debit card, cash or cheque
  • Make enquiries about housing and council tax benefit
  • make enquiries about and apply for new and replacement blue badges, allowing use of disabled parking facilities (subject to some restrictions)
  • View and apply to be added to the Electoral Register
  • Arrange bin and bulky collections, litter and street cleaning, street lighting, pest control, grass cutting and trees
  • Councillor surgeries
  • Get advice from external agencies including A4e and Newcastle Futures.

There is also a hotdesk space available to council workers who regularly work out of office in the area, which offers short stay, drop in style working.  To find out more take a look at the Hotdesk booklet (pdf, 385kb).

Throughout the development of a CSC we work with local people to find out what they think the area needs. As part of this we set up a Community Focus Group which has a mixture of local people and partners involved in the centre.

During the development of the building the Community Focus Group were active and had an input into most aspects of the building, from the size of rooms to how we promoted the Centre. When we launched a marketing campaign (pdf 9.55mb) in September 2005 to promote the facility, local people were used as our models.

To keep people informed about the Centre a series of newsletters were produced and delivered to all homes in the Kenton, Blakelaw and Fawdon areas in March and September 2005 and the summer of 2006.
