Skills for Life Literacy/Numeracy

Skills for Life logoThe Skills for Life (Literacy/Numeracy) team offer basic skills support to learners in a variety of contexts:

  • At work
  • To help children
  • To prepare for work/training
  • To develop study skills
  • To prepare for National Tests

We work with a wide range of learners from beginners to those working at Level 2 and use IT to support learning where appropriate.

We also offer specialist tuition for students with:

  • Specific learning difficulties (dyslexia)
  • We work with small groups of students with learning difficulties.

We have three main bases in Heaton, West Denton and Cruddas Park, but also work with a number of adult education providers. We will provide classes in new venues where a need has been identified.

All literacy/numeracy courses are free of charge to the learner, and can lead to nationally recognised qualifications.

Volunteer tutors are welcome to apply. All volunteers must be CRB checked and are expected to take City & Guilds 9297, which we run annually.

We also offer specifically tailored courses to meet the needs of different sections of the work force. These can be intensive one week courses or spread over a longer period.
