Information you need to provide

We hold registers for Newcastle from 1837 to the present day. You can order a copy of a:

  • birth certificate
  • death certificate
  • marriage or civil partnership certificate

Birth certificates

To request a birth certificate you must provide the:

  • first and last name at birth
  • year of birth
  • first and last names of at least one parent

Death certificates

To request a death certificate you must provide the:

  • first and last name of the person who has died
  • year of death

Baby loss certificates

Baby loss certificates are a national service, and are not provided through Newcastle Registration Service.

Request a baby loss certificate on Gov.uk

If your pregnancy ends before 24 weeks, you can get a free certificate in memory of your baby. You do not need to request a certificate if you prefer not to. 

If your pregnancy ends from 24 weeks onwards, you need to register a stillbirth.

Marriage certificates

To request a marriage certificate you must provide the:

  • first and last names of at least one of the married couple
  • year of marriage
  • place of marriage

If your marriage took place after 4 May 2021 in a religious building, we can only provide certificates once the marriage schedule or document has been returned to us to register the event. If we have not received this we will let you know so you may follow this up with the clergy or authorised person. 

Civil partnership certificates

To request a civil partnership certificate you must provide the:

  • first and last names of both partners
  • address of each partner at the time the ceremony took place
  • year of the ceremony
  • venue in which the ceremony took place
