Advocacy is when a person makes sure that someone's voice is heard. This is by speaking up for them or supporting then to speak up for themselves.

There is a range of organisations in Newcastle that can offer advocacy. Most of them are members of Advocacy Network Newcastle and agree to work to the advocacy code of practice.

Newcastle Advocacy Centre:

  • has a citizen advocacy scheme offering one to one support for vulnerable adults in Newcastle. This includes people with a learning or physical disability, older people and people with mental health problems.  
  • provide case advocacy for people with mental health needs
  • provide case advocacy for people from black and minority ethnic communities in Newcastle
  • recruit, prepare and support volunteer advocates
