The Newcastle Fund is a programme of grant aid for voluntary and community sector organisations in Newcastle who work with our communities.
The Newcastle Fund also means the council can support initiatives and projects which are not suitable for larger scale commissioned services, where an organisation delivers a service on behalf of the council, for example to provide social care to vulnerable adults and children.
The Newcastle Fund is aimed at supporting projects that need smaller sums of money, and where the need for the project comes from the community and voluntary sector.
During round two the city council received about 200 applications from some of our city’s voluntary and charity organisations. History tells us that the Newcastle Fund is significantly over subscribed, and we are able to fund only a relatively small percentage of the applications we receive and therefore applying organisations need to ensure that the projects they put forward closely reflect the City Council’s priorities for the fund which are:
Prevention – projects which support vulnerable individuals or communities, and help them to avoid the need to access more intensive statutory services, by addressing needs which would otherwise require more substantial intervention.
Inclusion – projects which build the capacity of people to live a fulfilled life, making the most of their potential, and avoiding people from becoming excluded from society.
Applications for the Newcastle Fund round 3 are now closed.

The Newcastle Fund is an important part of the council’s relationship between the council and the voluntary and community sector (VCS). It helps clarify the difference between commissioned services and grant aid.
